Letter from the President
July 2011
They say if you’re not moving ahead you’re falling back so as business people we always need to develop new ideas to move our businesses one step beyond what it is today. While the product we sell is an important factor in staying relevant and being recognized as a valuable resource to our customers, it isn’t the only component. What can we bring, besides the merchandise we sell, to ensure our customers have a memorable and positive experience? Maybe it’s an added value service or a new idea to implement or maybe it’s just transmitting a shot of enthusiasm. Whatever it is I know we all agree we need to do more than just show up or open our doors.
To help our team feel reenergized and empowered as we head into the 2nd half of the year we welcomed Randy Eller, former President of CBK, to visit and speak to us. For those of you that aren’t familiar with his background, Randy was in Retail Management for a large chain of Gift stores, then Sales Management at Russ Berrie followed by his role as the first Salesperson at CBK leading him to become the President of the company. This experience combined with his progressive vision of the future of our industry gives him a unique perspective to provide our team with new tools and expertise to bring to their partnerships with their buyers.
Later that evening we discussed the day and assessed the meeting’s effectiveness. We wondered what our team members would take away and put into action and if it would have a meaningful impact on their business and morale? Randy simplified it all with this quote
“We’re not what we want to be, we’re not what we’re going to be but we’re not where we were!”
That says it all ~ as long as we don’t accept mediocrity and fall into that complacent state of auto pilot and instead be curious, take risks, keep the bar of our own expectations high we can continue to redefine our own success!

Named in honor of one of my best friends and ICAN's beloved lung cancer patient for the entirety of her battle, this organization is bringing together the resources to have major impact in Brenda's memory on behalf of lung cancer patients braving this most challenging disease.
